National Institute for Security Studies
The National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja is the foremost security training institute in Nigeria. The institute prepares high-level security intelligence professionals, as well as senior level managers for critical roles in the sustenance of national security.
OUR Mandate
The main objective for the establishment of the institute is to provide top level management with a broader outlook, intellectual depth and the capacity to deal efficiently and effectively with deep analytical insight into the development and utilization of available resources towards effective management of the complex security challenges in a democratic dispensation. NISS is designed to provide senior level managers, the required operational and administrative capacity to identify and analyse security threats with a view to proffering implementable strategies to either prevent the threat or to mitigate their impact.

To be a leading training center for security studies, research, capacity building and staff development for the department of state services (DSS), the Nigerian intelligence community, sister security agencies, strategic agencies of government and beyond.
Our Mission
To sharpen the professional skills of men and women in the security and intelligence business for the purpose of supporting and protecting the rights of the citizenry, the security of the nation’s critical assets and installations, as well as the protection of the country’s sovereignty.
EVOLUTION OF THE INSTITUTE
The National Institute for Security Studies was first conceived as a Training School in 1999. It was upgraded in 2008 to become the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and elevated in 2019 to the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS). The overriding consideration in the establishment of the NISS includes promotion of synergy among security agencies in the management of national security challenges.
