PROF SALEH DAUDA

Profile

Prof Saleh Dauda was born on 26th August, 1964 at Bonga Village in present Bogoro Local, Government Area of Bauchi State. He attended Sum Primary School from 1971 to 1978 and Government Secondary School, Ningi           1978-1983 and University of Maiduguri        between 1983 and 1988 where he obtained Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History second class upper division (2nd Upper Division) M.A. (History) from University of Maiduguri 1989-1991 and University of Abuja1995-1998 where he obtained Doctorate degree in Political Science with specialization in International Relations.

Prof Saleh Dauda joined the Services College of Education Azare, Bauchi as a Lecturer between 1991 and 1993. Thereafter, He joined the services of University of Abuja in 1993 where he works till date

He became a Professor of International Relations in 2008. Before coming to the Institute for Security Studies on Sabbatical, he was a Director at the Institute for Legislative Studies, Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja. Also he was a Delegate to 2014 National Conference Abuja. He has several publications in both local and foreign journals

Prof. Oshita Osang Oshita, fspsp, ficmc

        Professor Oshita O. Oshita completed his Secondary School with Division One in the West African School Certificate Examination in 1980. He graduated with Second Class Upper in Philosophy at the University of Calabar in 1985 and began his Lecturing Career at the then University of Cross River State (now UniUyo), in 1987, after obtaining the Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan. In 1992 he was elected the Honourable Member representing Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abuja. He became a Senior Lecturer at the University of Calabar in 1997. He has taught, supervised and examined undergraduate and postgraduate students in Universities and other institutions in Nigeria and Overseas.

He joined the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in year 2000 and became the Director of Research and Policy Analysis in 2006. In 2007, he was a visiting Lecturer at Bayreuth University in Germany, where he designed, taught and examined students on Governance and Conflict in Africa. Between May 2019 and July 2019, he was Visiting Professor at the Institute for African Studies, Bayreuth University, Germany, where he taught a Master’s Degree Course, with the highly renowned German Professor, Dymitr Ibriszimow.

 Oshita is an expert in Governance, Peace and Security, Mediation Practice, Conflict-sensitive Planning, Early Warning, Scenario Building and Mainstreaming Peacebuilding in Development Programming. Professor Oshita has consulted for the Humanitarian Dialogue, Geneva, GIZ, USAID, Catholic Relief Services, WACSI, ECOWAS Political Affairs Department and the Directorate of Early Warning, UNDP-DPA New York/Uganda, UN OCHA, AU, Lake Chad Basin Commission, among others. He coordinated Nigeria’s premier Strategic Conflict Assessment (SCA), jointly supported by the World Bank, UNDP, USAID and DFID in 2002. He facilitated UNICEF-Nigeria IPCR partnership in Mainstreaming Peacebuilding in Development Programming and UNDP-sponsored draft National Peace Policy (NPP) for Nigeria. He is a member of the British International Studies Association (BISA), the Network for African Peacebuilders and Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). He served as 2nd Vice President of SPSP where he has been appointed a fellow (fspsp). He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ficmc) and Ambassador for Peace of the UN POLAC Peace Programme.

He was educated at the Universities of Calabar and Ibadan in Nigeria, and Bradford, United Kingdom, where he was a Chevening Scholar of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). He holds the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (2nd Class Upper), MA Philosophy, Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Education, MA in Peace/Conflict Resolution, and a PhD in the Philosophy of Social Science. He was a Study Group Coordinator and Directing Staff at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Bwari, Abuja. Oshita is a certified trainer, facilitator, multi-cultural personality and is extensively published.

As Director General/CEO of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) from 2014 to 2018, Professor Oshita’s leadership of IPCR raised the profile of the Institute in programming in Peace Research and Practice. Oshita established the National Peace Academy, the Training Department of IPCR in February 2016. Prior to the 2015 general elections, Oshita secured voting rights for the internally displaced persons (IDPs), particularly in the North East of Nigeria and led IPCR landmark contributions to a peaceful and credible 2015 general elections in Nigeria. He was co-opted as a technical member of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, GCFR.

Oshita is a Professor of Peace and Development Studies, Department of Philosophy, University of Calabar and founder of the Ubuntu Centre for Africa Peacebuilding and Development (UCAP).

PROFESSOR FELICIA A. O. OLASEHINDE -WILLIAMS

Professor Felicia A. O. Olasehinde -Williams was born on the 13th of August 1952, Professor Felicia A. O. Olasehinde-Williams hails from Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 Prof. Olasehinde-Williams is a professor of Educational Psychology. She obtained a First-Class degree in Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1982); as well as Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Educational Psychology from University of Ilorin in 1986 and 1991 respectively. In addition, Prof. Olasehinde-Williams has good training in Gender Studies as an alumna of West Africa Peacebuilding Institute (WAPI) and Human Rights Education Associates (HREA).

In addition to teaching Educational Psychology courses in the Faculty of Education since 1991, Prof. Olasehinde-Williams also taught Emotional Intelligence and Gender Studies, as an adjunct lecturer, in the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies of the University from 2008-2021. She was a Visiting Professor in the Peace and Conflicts Unit of the Institute of African Studies (now Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies), University of Ibadan (2012-2014); and a Visiting Scholar in the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia (1999-2000). Prof. Olasehinde-Williams is an External Examiner to a number of universities both within and outside Nigeria.

 Her research interests are Emotional Intelligence and Gender studies. She has contributed, in both areas, to reputable journals and texts; has supervised many PhD Theses and Master’s Dissertations in related areas; and was a member of the Editorial Board of Gender & Behaviour Journal of the Ife Centre for Psychological Studies, O.A.U. Ile-Ife, Nigeria (2012-2016). In addition, Prof. Olasehinde-Williams has been a long-standing Resource person on Emotional Intelligence and Gender Studies to the Institute for Security Studies (ISS); and was an External Examiner to the Institute for a period of five years.  She is currently a Study Group Coordinator here in the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS).

Prof Olasehinde-Williams was the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Education University of Ilorin (2020-2021), a position she voluntarily withdrew from to take up her present appointment as a Study Group Coordinator here in NISS on Sabbatical/Terminal leave from the 1st of August, 2021. Prior to becoming the Dean of Education in 2020, Prof Olasehinde-Williams was the Director, Centre for International Education (2017-2020); Director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies,(2009-2012); and Director, Centre for Supportive Services for the Deaf (2008-2009).

Prof. Olasehinde-Williams was the foundation President of the National Association of Women Academics in Nigerian Universities (NAWACS), Unilorin Chapter (2002-2004); Initiator and foundation President, Omu-Aran Women Forum, (Umbrella body of all married women, in Omu-Aran (2013-2018); and was Knighted as a Dame in the Kwara Diocese Anglican Communion in 2015. 

Prof. Olasehinde-Williams is a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (fspsp); member, Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA), and member, Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists (NISEP).  Dame Professor Olasehinde-Williams is blessed with children and grandchildren.

COMMODORE MICHAEL F. DANIEL RTD; psc+; fwc+; fdc+;

Commodore Michael Folusho Daniel rtd was commissioned as a Direct Entry Sub-Lieutenant into the Nigerian Navy in 1980 immediately after his NYSC with Lagos State. He was a 1979 graduate of Business Administration from the University of Lagos. He rose steadily through various ranks to become a Commodore in 2005. He held an MBA and M.sc (Distinction) from the River State University of Science and Tech and the University of Ibadan respectively.   

 

In the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Daniel held several staff and command appointments, both ashore and afloat. These included Staff Officer Pay, Assistant Supply Officer NNS ARADU, Deputy Director of Finance Defence Headquarters, Command Accounts and Budget Officer both at the Eastern and Western Naval Commands, Directing Staff at Command and Staff College Jaji, National War College and National Defence College Abuja respectively. He was also a Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy, Finance and Logistics College Owerrinta among other numerous appointments.

 

Commodore Daniel was a member of Command and Staff College Jaji (Course 17) as well as a member of National War College Abuja Course 13 where he emerged as the best overall participant. He obtained the following awards and medals: Forces Service Star (fss), Meritorious Service Star (Mss), Distinguished Service Star (Dss), Pass Staff College Dagger (psc+), Distinguished Fellow of National War College (fwc+) and Distinguished Fellow of National Defence College (fdc+). He was also the winner of the ‘President and Commander-in-Chief Gold Medal as the Overall Best Participant of National War College Course 13’.

 

Commodore Daniel has held some special assignments and responsibilities. He was a member of Abia State Security Council and at different times he was Head of National Defence College Delegation to Burkina-Fasso, Gabon, Israel and United Arab Emirates.

 

Commodore Daniel retired from the navy in December 2007 and was engaged as a contract Directing Staff by the National Defence college till December 2009. He thereafter joined politics and was elected into the Kogi State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015. He is blessed with loving children and his hobbies include driving, singing, reading and travelling.

Dr Nkadap Obi-Bisong, fsi+,

Nkadap Obi-Bisong hails from Boki in Cross River State.Born on 30th January, 1971, she attended Holy Child Secondary School, Ogoja and the University of Calabar, Cross River State, where sheobtained a B.A(Ed) Degree in English Language (1997). She also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State (2010).Nkadap enlisted into the Department of State Services on 10th October, 1999 and has worked in various capacities in different State Commands including: Enugu, Kwara, Rivers, Lagos and the National Headquarters, Abuja. She is presently a Deputy DirectorInternal Security (DDIS).

In the course of her career, Nkadap has attended
several Professional courses, seminars and workshops both within and outside the country. She is a recipient of the prestigious Head of State
NYSC National Merit Award (1998), and Overall Best Graduating Participant, EIMC 13, 2020. She loves research, public speaking, writing and travelling. Nkadap is married to Hon. Joe Obi Bisong and the marriage is blessed with a set of triplets.

Shotayo, Oluwafemi Isaac, fsi+

Femi was born on the 13th of January, 1966 in Ibadan, the capital of the then Western Region (now Oyo State), to the family of Late Chief Olusegun and Late Chief (Mrs) Oluwafunmilayo (Nee Shonekan) SHOTAYO both from different quarters in Abeokuta, present Ogun State.

Femi had his early education at Ireti (now Hope) Primary School, Mekunwen Road, Ikoyi, between 1971and 1977, before proceeding to Ansar-ud Deen College, Isolo for his secondary education between 1978 and 1983. In 1984 he had a year stint at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro before proceeding to the prestigious University of Ife (later changed to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) in 1985 to study Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Bsc Hons) degree in Electronic and Electrical Engr. in 1991 before proceeding for his mandatory national service (National Youth Service Corps) the same year in Kaduna, Kaduna State. He had his primary assignment at Queenway Aluminium Ltd, Kakuri, Kaduna. Subsequently, after employment with the Department of State Service, he acquired additional qualifications of a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (2001), Master in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Abuja, Abuja (2008), Master of Science Degree in Information Technology (MSc Info. Tech.) from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) (2016) and recently, concluded his studies leading to the award of a Masters in Arts Degree (MA) in Peace and Security Studies from the Centre for Peace and Strategic studies of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin.

Upon his enlistment into the services of the Department of State Services in 1992, he had served in various positions either as a Staff Officer, Principal Staff Officer, Security Liason Officer, Assistant Directors Administration and Logistics as well as that of Operations and Intelligence and so on. These appointments were at various times at the Lagos Headquarters Annex, Ikoyi, Lagos State Command, Benue State Command, National Headquarters (State House, ONSA and later NIMC), Adamawa, Kogi, Borno States (MMC, Operation Lafiya Dole and Admin and logistics) and most recently, Bayelsa State Command before his present posting to the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Lower Usuma Dam, Bwari as a Directing Staff and Syndicate Supervisor.

In the course of his career he has attended a number of Courses both local and foreign. These includes the Officer’ Basic Course, Lagos (1992), Advanced Surveillance Course, Lagos (1994), Junior Staff Course Abuja (2008), Codan Voice/Data Radio and UUplus Software Training Abuja (2010), Smrlink level 1 training, IL, USA (2003), Tait T800 Mobile Radio Repeater Training, IL (2003), Biometric Conference, UK (2012), ISO 27001 Executive Overview, UAE (2013) and the prestigious Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) Course 12 as a pioneer of the recently upgraded National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari Lower Usuma Dam, Abuja.

‘Femi is a member of a number of several Professional Associations including Member Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Member ASIS and several others. He is happily married to Dr. (Mrs) ‘Sola Shotayo; the marriage is blessed with three children and a foster daughter. He enjoys reading, dancing, travelling, listening to music, sight seeing and playing table tennis.

GODWIN OMETU, fsi

         Godwn Ometu was born on 15th of February 1963 in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State. He attended Ikelike Model Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku between 1971 and 1977, Adaigbo Secondary School (formerly St. Michael’s College), Ogwashi-Uku from 1977 to 1982 and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, from 1986 to 1991 for a five-year course where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Physics (Electronics) and a Masters degree in Peace and Security Studies.

He participated in the National Youth Service Corps exercise in Bauchi State and had his primary assignment at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Bauchi State, where he taught Basic Electronics and Engineering Mathematics.  Between 1993 and 2000, he worked in various computer companies as a computer systems engineer before enlisting in the Department of State Services (DSS) on 12th October 2000 on the rank of Security Intelligence Officer I (SIO I).

He was involved in the provision of basic computer training for virtually all cadres of personnel of the service and also in the deployment of computers and computer networks at the NHSS and all State Commands. He has attended the relevant tradecraft courses and several professional courses especially in cyber security. He has held various positions including Security Liaison Officer and Assistant Director ICT (AD ICT) and has risen to the rank of Director Internal Security with effect from July 2019.

He attended the Executive Intelligence Management Course 12, 2019 and was awarded the fellow of the Security Institute (fsi). Godwin Ometu is married and the marriage is blessed with four children.

Dr John C. DURU

Dr J.C. Duru was born on 26th, April, 1963 in Enugu, Enugu State but hails from Obollo, Isials-Mbano, Imo State. He completed his primary school education in 1975 and obtained his school certificate in 1980. Dr Duru holds B.Sc Political Science and Administration, LLB (Hons) BL, M.Sc International Affairs and Diplomacy  and Ph.D International relations.

In 1981, he was enlisted into the Nigerian Security Organisation (NSO) now rechristened State Security Service (SSS) and rose to the rank of Director having served the mandatory 35years of service and retiring in 2016. While in the service, he attended several courses both within and outside the country;  prominent among them are Armoury course (America organized in Lagos training school), Advance Interrogation Course (Lagos), Intelligence Processing Course (Abuja), Junior Management Course (Abuja), Hostage Taking Course (German organised Abuja) and Advance OPS Course (Pakistan)

Also, while in Service, Dr J.C Duru, held several Positions, some of which include Assistant Director Administration in three States of Kwara, Gombe and Delta, Assistant Director Operations in four states of Ebonyi, Imo, Kogi and Delta, PSO training in Kaduna training school, Local Government Security Chief (LGSC) in Isuikwuato, Ohafia, Aba North and Osisioma LGA, all in Abia State Command, LGSC Ekeremo LGA, Bayelsa State Command.

Dr. JC Duru stated his teaching career after retirement from Service at Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Coal City University, Enugu, Enugu State and Presently, Directing Staff, National Institute for Security Studies (NISS). He is a member of chartered institute of Arbitrators(MCArb ). He is happily Married and the union is blessed with four children.

AMB. (DR) ALI BASHIR MAGASHI, fwc, Ph.D

Ambassador Ali BASHIR MAGASHI fwc, PhD was born on 10th May 1957 in Kano city, Kano State. He attended Gwale Primary School Kano from 1965 – 1971 for his elementary school certificate. Between 1972 and 1976, he attended Government College Keffi, in the then Benue, Plateau State and thereafter, attended the school of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, thereafter, he proceeded for a degree programme where he obtained a B.Sc (Hons) in Political Science in 1980.

He also holds a PhD in Political Science which he obtained at the University of Bucharest, Romania, Ambassador MAGASHI is also a Fellow of the National War College Abuja.   He started work at the Kano State Civil Service as an Administrative Officer II in 1981. Ambassador MAGASHI’s career in the Foreign Affairs Ministry dates back to 1983/84 when he attended the Foreign Service Academy under the Ministry of the then External Affairs Ministry, Lagos.

In the course of his career in the Ministry  of foreign Affairs, he has served as Third, Second and First Secretary as well as Protocol Officer between 1983 and 1986. From 2001 to 2002, he was in charge of IMF, African Development Bank, IBRD and others as schedule officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

He also served as Counsellor, Senior Counsellor, Minister’s Counsellor, Director Training and Staff Welfare in addition to Director in the Permanent Secretary’s, office in the Ministries of  Health and the Federal Civil Service Commission  as well as Deputy Head of Mission/ Deputy Ambassador in various Nigerian Embassies.

Ambassador MAGASHI has participated in numerous high level strategic Meetings, Conferences and Seminars that have bearing on Nigeria’s Foreign Relations. He was also a Member of the delegation to the negotiation and signing of the World International Agreement on Cocoa in Geneva Switzerland under the auspices of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNCTAD) in February, 2000.

Ambassador MAGASHI also represented the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health on the Broads of the Nigerian National Postgraduate Medical College, Aiyetoro, Lagos, as well as and the National Universities Commission (NUC) Abuja. Among his publications are “Rethinking Conflict Resolution for Africa”, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs professional publication series published in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Ambassador MAGASHI is married with children and his hobbies include; reading, photography and travelling.         

Abubakar Sadeeque Abba

Abubakar Sadeeque Abba is an Academic by choice, preference and training.  A scholar toughened by decades of mentoring by intellectual giants in Africa, Europe and Asia.  A teacher both by parental guidance, divine destiny and providence.  A Primary and a Secondary school teacher and a Head Master in his early twenties. He is a University lecturer from 1999 till date.

A member of International Political Science Association (IPSA), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Korean Academy of Social Sciences (KASS), International Institute of Juche Idea (IIJI), National Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), Social Science Academy of Nigeria (SSAN), National Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and a Research and visiting scholar in various institutions, Centers and Schools.  Sadeeque is a visiting professor and external examiner in Post Graduate schools in many Universities.

Sadeeque was the political Party Specialist for the International Republican Institute (IRI) from 1998 – 2012, Democratic Governance Expert for the UN, midwived the Democratic Governance Project (DGD II) for Forty four (44) African countries from 2012 – 2015.  He earlier served as Research and Intelligence field specialist for Movement for the Advancement of African Societies (MAAS) in Africa, Europe and Asia Pacific from 1986 – 1992. An Alumni of Institute of Security and Terrorism studies (Specialists Cadre), Alumni of Patrice Lumumba University Moscow (Intelligence and Security). Fellow institute of Conflictology (Stockholm) and Fellow Center for intelligence and Security Studies (Buenos Aires). Presently, Sadeeque is a Consultant Specialist and Directing Staff to National Institute of Security Studies Bwari, Abuja.

Politically, Sadeeque is a lifetime member of Nigerian Union of Teachers and a registered member of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. I was President of Association of Business Education Students’ College of Education Jalingo (ABESCOEJA) from 1987-1989, President, National Association of Political Science & Administration Students (NAPOSAS) University of Maiduguri, 1995-1997, President Corps Welfare Association (Akwa Ibom State) 1997-1998, National Secretary ANPP Patriotic &Intelligent Forum (APIFO) 2003- 2007, Member, Buhari TBO and Presidential Campaign Committee (2003, 2007, 2011), Founding member Congress for Progressive change  (CPC) and Senatorial Candidate(CPC, Adamawa Central), Chairman, Gwagwalada Area Council(CPC) 2010- 2013, Founder, Nigerian Academicians United for Buhari ( 2007 – to date).

Sadeeque is a Professor of Political Science with specialization in Conflictology, Alternative Development Paradigms and a Thermo-dynamic political Economist from the Department of Political Science & International Relations, University of Abuja, Nigeria. Sadeeque Abba was the immediate past HOD of Political Science Department, and currently is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, University of Abuja. He is happily married to Ruqaiyatu Murtala Sardauna and is blessed with three pretty angels (daughters) and two trusted friends (boys).

BORN 22nd March 1961 in Kaduna to a Fulani family from Wamakko LGA in Sokoto State. He started his primary education at LEA Primary School, Tudun Wada, Zaria; proceeded to Boys’ Unity College Malumfashi in Katsina State; School of Basic Studies ABU Zaria. Prof Umar is a triple graduate of Ahmadu Bello University having obtained a 2nd Class Honors degree in Sociology in 1981, a Master’s in Public Administration and a PhD in Public Administration in 2011. Professor MB Umar did his national service as a teacher with Alamala Comprehensive High School, Army Artillery Corp, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State -1981 to 1982. In addition, he was -Assistant Lecturer – College of Education Sokoto between 1982-1984. In addition to being a visiting Associate Professor, Bauchi State University and Visiting Professor Umar Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina up till May 2022, Prof Umar held diverse positions such as pioneer Director, School of General &Entrepreneurship Studies, Federal Univ. Dutse [ April 2012- to Oct 2013], Dean, Faculty of General and Entrepreneurship Studies [Oct 2013-Oct., 2014], pioneer Director, Center for Entrepreneurship Development [CEED] 2014-2016 and severally Acting Head of Department of Political Science between 2016 to 2017, Member University Governing Council from 2015 – May 2019, Director, Development & Public Private Partnership [DPPP], in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. He also doubled as ORATOR of the University between 2016-2021. He initiated and engineered several business startups and ventures in different parts of Nigeria in the area of Agric value addition, ‘Grapespreneurship’, Distributive trade, Commodity purchase and Exchange, Fruit processing, E-Commerce, Distribution of Catering Products, Management and Entrepreneurship Training and Development. Prof Umar has published about 100 papers in Local, National and International Journals and contributed chapters in Books and articles in Magazines and NEWSPAPERS. He singly authored – The Sokoto Revolutionary – A Biography of the Executive Governor of Sokoto State… in addition to being an Editor / Editorial Board member / Reviewer of national and international journals. Prof Umar was a member of NUC accreditation teams to a number of Nigerian Universities in addition to being an External Examiner / Assessor to a number of Professorial candidates. As an accomplished University Administrator, Prof Umar had served in over 100 University Committees as Chair or Member. As a Scholar, he presented several papers at both national and international conferences in his various areas of research interest – mainly Regional Integration, Trade and Development, Democracy and Development, Youth Development, Enterprise/Entrepreneurship Development and Election Management in Africa. He is a member of the Nigerian Inst of Management and Nigerian Inst of Personnel Management in addition to being a Fellow of the Nigerian Inst of Entrepreneurs, Fellow Nigerian Institute of Management Consultants, Fellow Institute of Chartered Administrators, Fellow Nigerian Inst. of Corporate Executives and Member American Biographical Inst. North Carolina, USA [recipient of the MEDAL of Honor], member global body of Entrepreneurship Examiners. Prof Umar is currently a Directing Staff & Professor at the National Institute for Security Studies [NISS], Bwari, Abuja. He is a member of a number of several NISS Faculty/ Management Committees. Group Captain (retired) Mohammad Garba Gumi, mni, psc+ hails from Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. He had his early education at Sokoto Local Education Authority Primary School, Gummi between 1969 and 1975; and secondary education at Federal Government College, Ilorin between 1975 and 1980. He gained admission into the then University of Sokoto (now Usman Dan Fodio University) in 1980, graduating in 1985 with B.Sc. Geography.

While still an undergraduate, he enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force in 1983, as a member of Nigerian Air Force University Cadet Course 2. He was commissioned Pilot Officer in June 1984; promoted Flying Officer in 1985, Flight Lieutenant in 1989, Squadron Leader in 1994, Wing Commander in 1999, and Group Captain in 2004. He voluntary retired after almost 30 years of military service.

During his service years, he was in the Education Corps of the Nigerian Air Force; and served in different units and formations across the country. He held various Instructional, Staff, and Command appointments. He was at different times, Chief Instructor at Air Force Military School Jos, Air Force Girls’ Military School Jos, and Air Force Institute of Technology Kaduna. He was also at different times Command Education Officer at Nigerian Air Force Logistics Command Ikeja, Training Command Kaduna, and Tactical Air Command Makurdi. In addition, he was Directing Staff, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Commandant Air Force Military School Jos, Deputy Director in Policy and Plans Branch HQ NAF Deputy Director and Director Education.

Gp Capt (rtd) Mohammad Gumi attended numerous courses both at home and abroad. Some of the courses include Junior Command and Staff Course (1996), Senior Command and Staff Course (2000/2001); Joint Operations Planning Course (2003) United Kingdom Joint Staff College; Seminar on International Humanitarian Law (2001 and 2003) by International Committee of the Red Cross Nigeria; Long Range Strategic Planning Course (2006) by the US Air Force; Inspirational Leadership Course (2012) Dubai; Effective Communication Course (2019) Sheffield University UK; Training Needs Assessment Course (2006); Curriculum Development and Implementation Course (2006); and NAF Safety Seminar (2012). His military awards and decorations include Forces Service Star (1995), Meritorious Service Star (2000), Distinguished Service Star (2004), Passed Staff Course (2001), Passed Staff Course Dagger (2004), and member of the National Institute (2011). He was first in order of merit during the Senior Executive Course 33, 2011 of the National Institute, Kuru.

His key areas of competencies include policy, strategy and leadership development; national and organisational strategy; effective communication skills; security sector leadership development skills; professional military education; teaching and instructional skills.

Some of the countries he visited include Niger, Benin, Ghana, Mali, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, Burundi, Madagascar, South Africa, Ethiopia, Zambia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Indonesia, Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom and United States.

After retirement from the Nigerian Air Force, he joined the services of the National Institute in Feb 2015 and served Senior Fellow, Defence, Security and Strategic Studies in the Directorate of Research for one year; Directing Staff/Study Group Director for seven (7) years. During the 2015 and 2019 general elections he led European Union/NIPSS Election Observer Teams to Rivers State and Sokoto State respectively. In 2016, he was the North West Coordinator for the National Survey on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALWs) conducted by NIPSS on behalf of the then Presidential Committee for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (PRESCOM). He joined the Faculty of the National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja as a Directing Staff in May 2022.

Commodore James Abua Edako who hails from Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 1985. While in Service, he attended several courses and held various appointments. Some of the Military Courses he attended include the Junior Staff Course 33 and Senior Staff Course 24 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State. Others include Officers Long Course in Communication and General Warfare at the Nigerian Navy Ship QUORRA, Apapa, Lagos and the National Defence College Course 19 where he graduated as the best overall Naval participant in 2010. The civil courses and certificates he obtained include Advance Diploma in Security Operations and Management from the University of Lagos (a course he passed with distinction), M.Sc. in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna as well as M.Sc in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan in 2012.

While in the Service, he held several appointments. Some of the appointments include Directing Staff and Chief Instructor at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Deputy Director Coordination Naval Headquarters, Captain Academic Training Headquarters Naval Training Command and Commandant, Nigerian Navy Centre for Education and Training Technology. Others include Directing Staff, National Defence College, Abuja and he voluntarily retired from active Service on the 13th of August 2015 as Director of Naval Education, Naval Headquarters.

Some of his administrative experiences include Member Nigerian Navy Training Policy Review Committee, 2007 and National Defence Policy Review Committee, 2013. He was also a Member of the review committee, NDC Manual of Research and Strategic Writing, 2019. He is a member of the Institute of Security of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Defence College. He is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies include Listening to news, watching documentaries and live Soccer as well as playing the exciting game of Golf.

Veronica Gyanche Joshua was born on 15th November, 1967, to the family of Late Baba Kazzah Bargo and late Inna Sauka (mother) at Bafoi Gora in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. She attended Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Bafoi Gora from 1973 to 1979 for her First School Leaving Certificate in 1979, she got admission into Government Day Secondary School Zango kataf and graduated in 1984.  She also attended Kaduna Polytechnic, College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS), where she obtained a NationalDiploma in Secretarial Studies in 1992. She went further to University of Abuja to study B. Sc Political Science, and graduated in 2009.

She joined the Service on 1st July 1993 and went through the mandatory ASO and Officers Basic courses in 1997 and 2000 respectively.  She also had the privilege of attending other courses such as, Advanced Intelligence Course, 2018, Criminal Justice, Legal Drafting and Communication Skills at (CMD) Shangisha Lagos 2014, Training Managers’ Workshops for some years, Train the Trainers workshop 2013, Training Needs Analysis and Methods workshop 2012 at (CMD), Shangisha Lagos, Registry Course at ISS 2008, Governance, Security and Sustainable Development in Africa: Nexus, Challenges and Prospects, Cairo – Egypt, June 2021, courtesy of Egyptian Peacekeeping Operation Training Centre, Cairo.

Since her recruitment, she worked in Admin Directorate, Technical Directorate, Registry Supervisor and Training Directorate.  She is presently a Research Fellow and the Academic Record Officer of the EIMC at the National Institute for Security Studies, (NISS).

Veronica is happily married to Joshua Gyanche and the union is blessed with children.  Her hobby includes, driving, picnic and attending to the needy.
