IMPORTANT NOTICE: (i) Only courses available for the session are advertised and as such candidates are advised to select courses available in this advertisement. (ii) Candidates are advised to PRINT out the advertisement and STUDY thoroughly before COMMENCING the application procedure. (iii) Applicants are to note that the National Institute and the University will not be liable or responsible for any mistake made arising from wrong application. (iv) The Postgraduate academic session for Postgraduate programmes is 18 calendar months, commencing on 2nd September, 2024. The 18 calendar months starts to count automatically from the date of first registration. (v) Applicants are to note that programmes automatically lapses at the expiration of the prescribed maximum duration for each programme. A candidate may, however, apply for an extension of not more than 6 months, in the first instance, subject to a maximum of two such extensions. POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED M.A. Peace and Security Studies (Available for EIMC candidates only) M.A.   Peace and Development Studies (Open to all interested candidates) Ph.D Peace and Development Studies (Open to all interested candidates) ELIGIBILITY FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES General Requirements: All entry certificate requirements shall be available at the point of purchasing the application form. The National Youth Service Corp Discharge Certificate OR Exemption Certificate should be dated and presented on or before September 30th, 2024. Applicants are expected to submit their application forms online together with the scanned copies of their credentials. After the submission of the application forms online as stated in (ii) above, all supporting documents in (i) above and the hard copy of the application form, should be forwarded to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, National Institute for Security Studies, Nigeria between Tuesday, 6th August, 2024 and Tuesday, 13th August, 2024, while the submission of Transcripts of Academic Records should be addressed and forwarded to the Commandant, NISS. The Postgraduate School will not be held liable for any misdirected transcript. All applicants must have 5 O/L Credit passes in the relevant subjects, which must include English Language and Mathematics. In line with Senate directives, applicants who had their O/L results before the year 2015, may have a pass in English or Mathematics depending on the programme applied for. Applicants for the Master degree programmes who are graduates of the University of Ilorin and other recognized universities must have a minimum of Second Class Honours Degree (Lower Division) and must be applying for programmes in which they had their first degrees. However, applicants with Second Class Honours Degree (Lower Division) and those with higher classes of degrees seeking admissions into programmes outside those in which they had their first degrees may be admitted. The least class of first Degree for all academic programme applicants is Second Class Honours Degree (Lower Division). The Bachelor degrees should be obtained from the University of Ilorin or any other university recognised by the Senate of the University of Ilorin. ALL applicants shall apply early for their official Bachelor degree transcript to be sent to the Commandant, NISS where the admission is being sought, before the expiration of the stated deadline in B(iii) above. Again, the Postgraduate School will not be held liable or responsible for any misdirected transcript. All Higher Degree applicants that attended foreign Universities, where English language is not the medium of instruction, should submit to the Head of Department where the admission is being sought, evidence of their English Language proficiency, e.g. TOEFL or IELTS scores obtained within the validity period of such certifications. All applicants are requested to submit a proposal of not more than 5 pages, giving details of their intended areas of research interests. 2023 Crisis Management Week

The opening ceremony of Crisis Week for the Participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 16 was held on 3rd October, 2023. The Crisis Week themed “Globalisation and Nuclear Security: Securing CBRN Facilities and Materials” has series of activities, including a Workshop on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN); a Crisis Management Seminar; and a Simulation Exercise codenamed “Gate Rush II”.  The workshop on CBRN threats will provide participants with invaluable knowledge and skills, enhance their understanding of potential consequences, and equip them on how to respond to these threats. Secondly, the seminar on crisis management will amongst others, delve into the intricacies of leadership and decision-making in times of crisis as well as equipping participants with the strategies and tools to navigate a crisis situation while ensuring that lives are protected, and normalcy is restored. Participants were therefore encouraged to participate actively and make the most of the programme while and to being mindful of the immense responsibility that comes with the knowledge they will acquire.

Closing Ceremony of Advanced Security Management Course III

The Graduation Ceremony of Advanced Security Management Course (ASMC) III was held today 18th August, 2023. The 3-week Course which started on 31st July, 2023 had twenty-seven(27) Participants drawn from Adamawa and Yobe State Governments, as well as Senior Management Staff from Federal Government Agencies and Parastatals,including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND). The Course is aimed at providing strategic level security/intelligence officers, as well as top level management with the requisite skills to handle their positions and contribute positively to the formulation and implementation of policies relating to national security and development in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), States and the nation at large. The Participants made some observations, recommendations and expressed their profound appreciation to the Institute, the Commandant, A.S. ADELEKE,fsi+ mni, Course Director, Dr. A.A. KARIM, fsi+, Course Coordinator and other eminent Faculty Members.

Security Awareness Workshop

The National Institute for Security Studies in collaboration with National Commission for Refugee, Migration and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) organized a 3-days Security Awareness Workshop and Induction for newly recruited staff of the Commission. The Workshop/Induction which commenced on 10th July, 2023 focused on equipping participants with the Knowledge, skills and resources necessary to navigate the complexities of security challenges in their Area of Responsibilities (AOR). The workshop had in attendance top management of both NISS and NCFRMI including Commandant, A.S. ADELEKE, fsi+, mni, Honourable Federal Commissioner, Imaam Sulaiman Ibrahim, fsi, as well as Directors and Faculty Member of the NISS.

One Day National Workshop

The National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), organized a One Day National Workshop themed: 2023 General Elections in Nigeria: Security Stakeholders’ Review. The Workshop which took place on Thursday 15th June 2023, at the JOHNWOOD Hotel, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, had the representatives of various relevant electoral stakeholders.  The objective of the National Workshop is to review the role of security agencies and other stakeholders in the conduct of the General Elections and identify gaps that would facilitate reform of relevant legal and policy frameworks for future elections in Nigeria.
